U.S. Senate Candidate And Fmr State Rep Charles Booker Responds To Senator Rand Paul Co-Sponsoring Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act Of 2022

LOUISVILLE, KY— After almost a year of pressure from former State Representative and U.S. Senate candidate Charles Booker, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has agreed to co-sponsor the “Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Bill of 2022”. Senator Paul’s opponent, Charles Booker has made ending systemic racism a plank of his U.S. Senate campaign and has consistently held Senator Paul accountable for being the lone vote blocking the “Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Bill” in the United States Senate.

“I’m relieved that, after almost a year of campaigning and taking a stand against Senator Paul’s terrible record on civil rights, he has finally been led to do the right thing. It took a full year of my campaign pointing to the fact that Rand Paul refused to allow the vote on the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act for him to finally make an attempt to do what is right,” said Charles Booker. “Rand Paul is so afraid of the movement we are building, he is now working to co-sponsor the bill he single handedly blocked less than two years ago. That is credit to the organizing power of our movement across Kentucky.”

“Lynching was heinous when Rand Paul was the lone, shameless vote to block the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act. Justice is not some football to be kicked around for political expediency. We need leaders who stay on the right side of history, rather than those who weaponize our fears and exploit our pain.

“We look forward to seeing Rand Paul support more of the policies we are lifting up in our Kentucky New Deal, and using his remaining months in office to finally work for the American people.”
