Charles has lost six family members to gun violence in the past six years, and knows intimately the impact gun violence can have on the family members and communities that experience it. He joins Americans across the country in carrying the trauma of having loved ones murdered. Gun violence is a public health crisis, and must be addressed as one.
Like the vast majority of Americans, Charles supports common sense gun safety measures that will keep all families safe. As a Senator, Charles will support universal background checks for all gun purchases and enforcement of wait times to allow for full background checks. He will advocate for closing of the Charleston loophole, ensure that weapons of war are not used to devastate neighborhoods, and will support full funding the Centers for Disease Control to allow for research into the public health threat that is gun violence.
